As one of outstanding novels of Pushkin, The Queen of Spades shows us a dramatic picture of Russian feudal capitalism society. The protagonist Herman is an adventurer, going to every expedient in order to make a fortune. He firstly cheated the love of Lisavita, the adopted daughter of countess and then struggled into the inner court where he attempted to cheat and obtain the secret of winning by three cards from the dying old countess. He even pulled out a pistol and shot the old countess. When the ghost of the old countess told the secrets, Herman frantically ran to the casino and delivered bet. However, the card mysteriously become the queen of spades, which seems like the terrible haunted face of old countess. Readers of Pushkin's novels shows regret for the small proportion of his novels while praising the charismatic novels. So those who only read Pushkin's poetry rather than novels show more regret.
