但丁（1265—1321），意大利著名诗人，在西方 文学史上，享有与荷马、莎士比亚齐名的美誉，他用 了十多年时间完成的旷世之作《神曲》代表了中世纪 文学的最高成就。《神曲》采用了中世纪流行的梦幻文学的形式，描 写了一个幻游地狱、炼狱、天堂三界的故事。全诗三 卷，分别为《地狱》、《炼狱》和《天堂》，每卷三十三 篇，加上序共一百篇。诗人描述了他在一三○○年复活 节前的凌晨，在一片黑暗的森林中迷了路，象征淫欲、 强权和贪婪的豹、狮、狼拦住了去路。正在危急关头， 古罗马诗人维吉尔出现了，他受但丁青年时期所爱恋 的女子俾德丽采之托前来援助。维吉尔引导但丁游历了 惩罚罪孽灵魂的地狱，穿越了收容悔过灵魂的炼狱，最 后由俾德丽采引导他经过了构成天堂的九重天之后， 终于到达了上帝面前。这时但丁大彻大悟，他的思想 已与上帝的意念融洽无间，整篇诗到此戛然而止。但丁在游历地狱和炼狱时，遇到的不少灵魂生前 都是历史上或当时的著名人物，诗篇的字里行间充满 寓意，也具有很强的神学和宗教色彩。 (Durante degli Alighieri (1265-1321), an Italian famous poet, is on par with Homer and Shakespeare in western literature history. He spent 12 years finishing an epic poem titled Divine Comedy, representing the highest achievement of medieval literature.In the form of a popular fantasy literature of the Middle Ages, it is divided into three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, each consisting of 33 cantos. In addition to an initial canto, the total number of cantos is up to 100. As depicted in the poem, in the morning before resurrection in 1300, Dante lost his way in a dark wood, assailed by beasts (a lion, a leopard, and a she-wolf, symbol of lust, greed and power, respectively) he cannot evade, and unable to find the "straight way". Dante is at last rescued by Virgil, who was entrusted by Beatrice, Dante's ideal woman. The Roman poet Virgil guides him through Hell and Purgatory; Beatrice, Dante's ideal woman, guides him through Heaven. Finally, he came to God. At his time, Dante has great awakening. His thoughts are in harmony with God and the whole poem was finished here. Dante met a lot of souls who were famous figures in the history or at that time when he traveled through inferno and Purgatorio. The lines of poetry are full of meaning and have very strong theology and religion.)
