Many flower design books have dazzling photos but the arrangements are not always achievable by a novice on a limited budget. Floral designer Cylinder fills that gap nicely. She addresses all the basics that many books miss--great introductory instruction with detailed illustrations. Care and handling of materials, charts of flower colors and seasons, prep work, and tools and supplies are well covered. Flower projects are presented by type of design, such as bouquets, use of florist foam and grids, lined vases, and more. There are 85 projects in total, all with striking photos. Standouts include sweet pea bouquet, green hydrangeas and ferns, use of succulents, and submerged elements. VERDICT This book creates a needed foundation for aspiring designers. While a few of the patterns lack the lush nature of Ariella Chezar's The Flower Workshop, this volume overall boasts diversity. Highly recommended for floral design collections that require introductory material.
