《易经》起源于有文字史前之龟占之术，相传伏羲氏作八卦以解兆象。后经周文王整集成六十四卦，并分别制定卦辞，启用筮法卜占，后人称为《周易》。 后来周公旦制作了三百八十四爻辞，分别加注于六十四卦卦辞之后，孔子及后人又补述《象辞》上下传、《系辞》上下传、《彖辞》上下传、《文言》、《序卦》、《说卦》及《杂卦》等，称为"十翼"。后人统称为"易经"，实则卦爻称经、十翼称传。
