Zuli Cloud doesn't make friends easily. The young Storm Watcher girl is a skilled tinkerer. She sometimes helps students at the International School of Dragon Training with their magical gem gadgets. But otherwise, she usually gets along better with dragons than people. One day, Zuli's sea serpent, Rainbow, and the other sea serpents become sick with the drizzles, a condition that causes their magic to go haywire. Zuli manages to discover the cause of the sickness and a cure for the disease. However, she needs help to cure all the sick dragons. Will Zuli convince her fellow students to help before a powerful storm forces the school to close?

Gr 3-6-This new high fantasy chapter book series for kids takes place in Drakenkind, a land where dragons and humans work together as caretakers of the world. At the International School of Dragon Training, students train to join the prestigious Dragon's Guild. Each book in this engaging series follows a young student as they work with their dragon: Toni, who only planned to steal and sell a dragon egg but ends up unexpectedly bonding with a baby dragon and joining the school; Bry, a new student at the dragon school who struggles to fit in with his classmates; Zuli, a skilled tinkerer determined to find a cure for some sick dragons; and Dax, a dragon rider with a major fear of heights. Black-and-white illustrations are frequent in these exciting, page-turning stories that are sure to capture the attention of both devout fantasy fans and readers looking for a starter fantasy. A dragon guide, discussion questions, writing prompts and a glossary are included in each volume, along with an article tying the story's dragon to mythology or legend. VERDICT Purchase where series such as "Dragon Masters" and the "Kingdom of Wrenly" are popular. This series is a worthy successor.
