All 63 of the U.S. sites designated as national parks, from Acadia on the coast of Maine all the way to areas of Hawai'i, are represented in this fun scavenger hunt that all ages will enjoy. Each park includes a description that specifies its location, size, and a variety of items to search for during a trip. The book gives point values for each item and the park as a whole, to maximize the competitive nature for readers who really want to take full advantage of the scavenger hunt concept. The artwork representing each park is simplistic but colorful. Whether these activities are enjoyed solo or with family, they will no doubt encourage a new appreciation for all of the national parks across the country. This is a perfect travel guide and companion to get kids engaged with nature and adults reintroduced. VERDICT This would be an excellent addition to a juvenile or adult collection.--Sarah Filiberto

Travel to the 63 national parks can expose kids to a tremendous diversity of landscape, flora, fauna, and interpretive cultural and historical opportunities. It can also include a lot of car time and longer hikes than some youngsters are used to. This scavenger hunt travel guide gives families an option for keeping kids engaged during their time in the park and helps to add breadth and depth (and a bit of competition) to their park experience. Since this title includes so many parks in a relatively short volume, the section for each park is fairly brief but still offers a good number of items to spot, from specific critters to landscape structures. A description and mention of the significance is included for each item, though illustrations are not, so families will want to pick up a Junior Ranger booklet at the park office or have a supplemental nature guide on hand. Lists in the back offer a handy way to keep track of the points earned for competitive siblings. A fun encouragement to get out in nature.COPYRIGHT(2023) Booklist, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
