Gr 3-5-In the town of Grubbers Nubbin, a new beast has emerged, and it's up to Stitch Head to stop it. Recently, Stitch Head rescued a large group of orphans from an "evil spider-lady who fed on their souls" and has taken them under his care. However, his friend Arabella believes that the castle where they reside-owned by a professor who creates monsters-is no place for humans. Despite this, Stitch Head is determined to keep his promise to protect them. While stealing food for the orphans in town, he encounters the monstrous beast. Upon discovering that a human from the castle used his master's "beast yeast" potion to transform into the creature, Stitch Head must find a cure. The story's morbid, horrorlike illustrations complement its dark tone. VERDICT A strong addition to children's horror collections, especially where the "Stitch Head" series is already popular.
